Six years ago, there was a sudden disruption to something many of us had considered almost immutable: where work happens. The pandemic forced a huge number of people to work from home, and technologies and practices that had previously developed slowly suddenly had to catch up. What had been an exception became normal remarkably quickly. It also showed us that many knowledge-work jobs could be done somewhere other than the employer’s premises.
